Thanks, now pick a new feature!

June 24, 2010

Update: THE POLL IS NOW OPEN

The other day we (the team) discussed what a great community we have around our little app. It really makes it worth it, and we are really inspired by how much people care, and how glad you are to help us when we ask you to take screenshots, beta-test or send us crash logs. We really get a lot of great feedback from you guys, and we could not have done this without you!

As a BIG thanks to you all, the next remoteless feature will be chosen by YOU!

Round one: Submit feature candidates (started June 24th).

Everybody is welcome to submit ideas, feature requests etc as comments under this thread. We will add them to our list, and try to estimate them, and try to describe if it will work or not. All ideas will be considered, and we will give feedback to all of them.

If you don’t want to post ideas here, mail them to anders@remoteless.no

Round two: Vote! (starting July 26th)

Secondly, we will have a voting round where everybody can vote. The feature with most votes will be our next implemented feature.

Some guidelines:

  • It have to be possible (we can only do some magic).
  • If you choose a feature that will take more then six months, there will basically be no updates in half a year.
  • This is a big thanks to our EXISTING users, so it should be something that YOU want, not for example porting to androide for androide users.

Current list of known feature request:

  • iPad version where most screens are visible all the time.
  • Playlist sync for premium users. (sync your playlists to remoteless)
  • Start Airfoil from remoteless (simple)
  • Full Airfoil-controller from remoteless (dont know if this is possible/simple/hard)
  • Skinning? (what do you want to skinn, and why?)
  • Queue next song(possible) / queue songs(we have tested this, and it will not work that well)
  • Related artists (only possible if available from metadata-api, or as a search in last fm)
  • Artist radio (Could be possible, ill research)
  • Search for current artist / current song (we don’t know what album is playing, so this is all we can do)
  • Make UI more iTunes-remote like
  • Star songs (probably not possible)

BTW, mac port will be finished before we start implementing this new feature.

-the remoteless team

P.S Letting community decide features is not that common, and we don’t really know how this will work out, but anyway, This is FUN! :-) Now come up with something great!

My feature idea is the ability to que songs.

Example: search for a song > select it > then click que > which would set the song to come on next.

This feature would be great for partys.

      1!

^ hmm, that should have said plus 1, but I guess the comments system killed the plus sign…

Really liking the premium playlist sync idea (I’m a premium user), it would just move the app up a notch.
Also really liking the idea of the iPad version (I’m an iPad user).

But I think that Ukgrant’s song queue idea would be more universal as it’s a feature that everyone would benefit from (not just premium and/or iPad user’s).

I use the Spotify application like that all of the time, just scrolling through playlists queueing songs up, so the ability to do this in the Remoteless app would be ideal.

Saying that all three of the above ideas would be so nice to have I may change my mind in a bit. 80)

I use related artists and artist radio to discover new artists. It would be nice to be able to do this fram remoteless :-)

It’s just a small feature, i guess. but sometimes i’m missing it a lot: when you are looking at the currently playing song, there is no option to click on the artists name and directly search for it. or for the album. click on it and show all other tracks on this album. or am i just not using it correctly?

so, link all artists, albums and whatever wherever it is possible to the search.

Possibility to choose to lauch Airfoil from app rather than Spotify would be great and should be pretty easy to implement. Airfoil will then automatically launch Spotify.

So, the airfoil users are adding up – please try to add airfoil control as soon as possible.

      http://getsatisfaction.com/remoteless/topics/airfoil_support

A “launch airfoil” button would be simple. Since airfoil automatically launches spotify, it’s seems just a matter of giving remoteless the right handles of the spotify app to control it.

I agree. Having airfoil access would make it more conveniant. Just as iTunes and remote is today. Thanks for a fantastic app! Regards from Sweden

This app has very good potential. I still don’t use it because of the lack of playlist integration. When it is possible for us premium users to navigate the playlists. Then this app will be the perfect spotify remote.

Update the UI? It’s fine, but it would be a lot nicer if you could mimic the iTunes remote app interface. Also an option to lose the fb/twitter icons which I find very annoying.

    Hi,

here is my wishlist (in order of priority for me):

    1. Make the operation of remoteless more robust and consistent:
make sure ‘play all’ and ‘volume’ always work. Now when my screen is turned off, these functions stop working. (I’m on a Mac)

    2. ability to queue songs and edit the queue

    3. ability to star songs

    4. related artists and artist radio

    5. ability to display the tracks of the currently playing song, a bit like the ipod function allows to do this. (the back function only displays your last action here)

    6. Integration with airfoil
would be really nice, but still less important than the above since there are other ways to control airfoil via an ipod touch remote. I really like the kickstarter app.

    7. Wake on lan of the chosen connection

    8. Tidy up the interface
eg making it a configurable option to show/hide the twitter/facebook icons?

Keep up the good work !

    Kris

The possibility to start artist radio using the remote would be great! And shouldn’t be that difficult to implement..?

    Thanks everyone so far!

We’ll make a poll before the end of the month, then it is up to you to rally the troops.

I have an extra request which I think should not be that hard: a bit more info when browsing an artist:
    - display the year of the album
    - have the same sections that spotify show: top hits, albums, singles, appears on

Yes please release iPad version as soon as possible — iPhone version wastes so much iPad screen space that could include more web version features. The future is iPad Spotify Premium through hifi!
